A bonded warehouse is a facility under Turkish Customs Law No. 4458 where goods not subject to import duties are stored under customs supervision without paying taxes. Under Articles 328–329 of the Turkish Customs Regulation there are six warehouse types: public (A, B, F) and private (C, D, E).

Per Article 101 of Law No. 4458, the storage duration in a bonded warehouse is essentially unlimited. This gives businesses the flexibility to wait for market conditions to improve. However, after a new regime declaration, the process must be completed within 30 days.

Customs duties, VAT, and excise tax payments are deferred while goods remain in the warehouse. This protects business cash flow and doesn't tie up capital in tax payments.

There are six types under Articles 328–329 of the Customs Regulation: public warehouses A, B and F; private warehouses C, D and E. The most common in commercial storage: Type A: General warehouse, operator responsible, open to all. Type B: General warehouse, user responsible, no stock records. Type C: Private warehouse, only operator's goods stored. Type F is operated by the customs administration; Types D and E are special authorisations for an operator's own goods.

Per Article 104 of Law No. 4458, labeling, packaging, quality control, simple assembly, and sorting operations can be performed in the warehouse, provided they don't alter the nature of goods.

Re-export means selling and shipping goods placed in the warehouse directly to another country without nationalizing them in Turkey (i.e., without releasing them to the domestic market). This way, customs duties and other taxes are never paid.

Transit trade involves purchasing goods from one country and selling them to another. The bonded warehouse serves as an intermediate storage point. Trabzon's connections to Iran, Georgia, and Russia provide significant advantages.

CFS (Container Freight Station) is used for container loading/unloading and LCL cargo consolidation. Bonded warehouses are for long-term customs storage and tax deferral. CFS is short-term; warehouse duration can be unlimited.
